New Mexico Mycological Society
- March 2000
March Meeting(s)
- Tuesday, March 7th, 7:30pm at the Natural History Museum
- NHM Annex (east across 18th St from main Museum bldg)
- Board Meeting begins at 7:00.
- Subject: Changing NMMS's NAMA Affiliation Status
We will precede the regular March Meeting with a meeting, beginning at 7:00, of the NMMS Board, who encourage members to attend. The topic of the Board's discussion will be the question of changing our club's affiliation status with NAMA.
NAMA's recent announcement of a substantial dues increase has some NMMS members questioning the need for continuing full
affiliation with
NAMA. Our present "Full
Affiliation" means that every member of NMMS must also maintain membership with NAMA. The F.A. status also allows members a $5 discount off the regular rate. The question we will consider is whether we should change our status to "Affiliated," which means that NMMS members would have the option of purchasing NAMA membership (at a $3 discount).
The Board would like to hear members' views at the March Meeting. Those
who cannot attend are welcome to write David Wallis, who will share the
ideas with the Board. The question will ultimately come to a vote by
all the membership. We will decide the voting details at the
meeting.
Because we anticipate that the Board Meeting will extend into the regular
meeting time, our March program will be a live demonstration with multiple
narrators entitled "Behavior of Primates under the Influence of
Mushrooms."
We will be meeting in the NH Museum Annex, which is across 18th Street
(east) from the main Museum building. The plan at this point is for us to
use the Annex for the April and May meetings as well.
Needed: Foray Chair
NMMS President Larry Weingarten has requested a volunteer to serve
as Chairperson for this year's Foray Committee. Several people are
willing to help, but so far, no one has offered to take charge. It is
essential that we get moving on this project. Please contact Larry if you you can do this.
Field Trips
I have updated the Field Trip page on our Website to provide a tentative
schedule for Spring forays. The first date is Saturday, April 8th, and I
propose visiting the east side of the Sandias. Please consult the Webpage
as we get a little closer to April. The URL is
http://www.swcp.com/mycowest/members/ft00.htm. (The Field Trip page is
available to NMMS members only and requires a username and
password.)
Second hand Mycology Books for Sale
I received Email from John Grinling, who was selling a collection of
Mycology books, and was accepting bids for the various works. Mr. Grinling
stressed that "Most books are original editions, in good condition,
occasionally with a few light penciled annotations," and adds, "May I draw
your attention to the Icones Selectae Fungorum of P.Konrad et
A.Maublanc (Paris 1924-1930), and the Iconographia Mycologica of
J.Bresadola (Milano, 1927-1941), both original editions."
Note: Bidding closed on Saturday, 4 March 2000.
