FORAY LUNCHEON

Pat Brannen is planning to meet 11:30, Thursday the 22nd at Carlo's (Villa Fontana) in Taos. This is a regular lunch and not the special NMMS dinner we've enjoyed in Forays past. However, Pat stated that Carlo will serve at least one mushroom dish, and the fare at Carlo's is always exceptional. Those interested please call Pat, so she can inform Carlo how many to expect.

PECOS STUDY

The first field session at the Pecos National Historical Park (Pecos Monument) was held on Friday, July 20th. Turnout was sparse at best, but we managed to find some fungi nonetheless. Those participating were Pat Brannen, Ted Stampfer, and David, Meredith, and Olin Wallis. Although we arrived right after a period of substantial rains, the area was fairly dry.

The next session will be on Friday, August 23rd (yes, during the Foray). Those wishing to participate should meet at the Trading Post by 10:00. There will be no hunting for the pot, but it is an excellent opportunity to exercise one's visual acuity and ID skills while spending time in a beautiful area. Bring plenty of water and wax paper. Also, the flies near the river can be mildly annoying, so it is a good idea to bring along some insect repellent.

Even if you don't plan to attend the Foray, please consider spending Friday the 23rd at Pecos. The success of this study is important in furthering the recognition of NMMS as an organization with sincere scientific involvement.

For more information about the Pecos study, call Pat Brannen.

INFO FROM '95 FORAY
submitted by Coleman Leuthy

The Albatrellus (confluens) at the August '95 Jemez Foray was identified as A. subrubescens. This is the first record from New Mexico and extends the range in the Southwest. The closest record is near Flagstaff. The known range extends north through the Rockies into Idaho and Montana.
